The passing of Joan Rivers this week truly struck a chord for me like it did for so many others. A brilliant if sometimes acerbic comedienne & comedy pioneer for women, she spent countless hours in our collective living room subbing for Johnny Carson, starring in her own shows, or on the "red carpet" when award time rolled around. We could always count on her to give us the truth with a smile always reflecting her patented blazing wit. Personally, I don't think I will ever forget the deft way she handled the night of the Challenger disaster finding just the right blend between respect & humor. It was just what we as a nation needed on that very tragic night.
She Was A Comedienne & A Business
What many don't realize that in addition to being a gifted comedienne & trailblazer, she was a multi-million dollar enterprise supporting many others as well as a quiet staunch supporter of many charities. Perhaps it's my NY roots, but the world will be a poorer place without her in it.
Rivers' "Funeral Wishes" By Rivers
"I want Craft services, I want paparazzi and I want publicists making a scene! I want it to be Hollywood all the way. I don't want some rabbi rambling on; I want Meryl Streep crying, in five different accents," she continued. "I don't want a eulogy; I want Bobby Vinton to pick up my head and sing 'Mr. Lonely.' I want to look gorgeous, better dead than I do alive. I want to be buried in a Valentino gown and I want Harry Winston to make me a toe tag. And I want a wind machine so that even in the casket my hair is blowing just like Beyonce's."
Condolences to her surviving family; to Ms Rivers RIP
