For a long time now everyone has been talking/writing about social media whether it is in the context of sharing, marketing, or even just building relationships. In fact it’s such a force in our culture that like Google, social media sites such as Facebook & Twitter have become a part of our everyday language. Basically the emphasis is on what an individual or company puts out in cyberspace about themselves, their brand, or product. However, even though there are some really helpful tools for it, no one ever really talks about “social listening.” What is it? Simply put, it’s tracking what is being said about you, your brand or product. For example, researching what people say about your business on Yelp is a form of social listening but Yelp is more consumer oriented.

In order to do this for yourself or your own business, it is best to use Google Chrome & only using its “incognito” option. Check your personal brand, your business brand, and your products. Like posting online, make it a regular habit. Why? This way if something negative is said about you, you can respond quickly in order to avoid such posts from creating a life of their own None of these tools covers everything so it is best to work with them all. Like setting aside a time to pay your bills every month, set aside some time on a regular basis to find out what people are saying about you!
